About The 3D Armory
The 3D Armory is a collection of browser-based converters for 3D models, images, and audio. Your files are processed on your device.
What the tool is for
A part can be useful but arrive in the wrong file format. This tool lets you select a local STL, OBJ, STEP, IGES, or BREP file and export STEP, STL, OBJ, or PLY without creating an account. It is intended for geometry exchange: preparing a mesh for another application, checking a prototype, or bringing a faceted model into CAD.
How it works
The conversion runs in a background worker in your browser. CAD input is read using occt-import-js, a WebAssembly interface to Open CASCADE. Our conversion code reads mesh inputs, checks geometry, and writes the selected output. The CAD engine files are served from this website.
All 3D-model formats pass through triangles. A STEP export is therefore a faceted representation, including when the input was another CAD format. The tool does not recover sketches, feature trees, exact cylinders, or smooth surfaces from a mesh. Our STL-to-STEP guide explains when that trade-off is useful.
What to expect
Conversion can fail on damaged geometry, large files, or unsupported entities. A successful export is not a guarantee that a part is watertight, printable, or suitable for manufacturing. Reopen the output in your destination application and check its dimensions and shape before using it.
We document the tool's current behavior in the conversion guides, including worked examples and known limits. We do not claim affiliation with the CAD applications you use to open the results.
Images and audio
Use the image converter to export PNG, JPG, or WebP with quality and background settings. The audio converter exports browser-supported recordings as MP3 or WAV. Both tools accept files up to 25 MB; audio is limited to ten minutes and mono or stereo. Each page explains format limitations and offers a preview before downloading.
MP3 encoding uses lamejs, a JavaScript port of LAME. The unmodified encoder source is available under the LGPL. Read its license.
